With just about 8 weeks left in the regular season, I am going to put out my Rest of Season (ROS) rankings over the next week or so. I’ll start with Catchers and end with Relief Pitchers. I’ll take into account stats to date and what I think they’ll do the rest of the way. So, without further adieu…

ROS: Top 20 Catchers Rankings

1. Buster Posey–SF
2. Joe Mauer–MIN
3. Yadier Molina–STL
4. Matt Wieters–BAL
5. Miguel Montero–ARZ
6. Carlos Santana–CLE
7. A.J. Pierzynski–CWS
8. Ryan Doumit–MIN
9. Salvador Perez–KC
10. Jonathan Lucroy–MIL
11. Brian McCann–ATL
12. Jesus Montero–SEA
13. Alex Avila–DET
14. John Jaso–SEA
15. Jarrod Saltalamacchia–BOS
16. Mike Napoli–TEX
17. Michael McKenry–PIT
18. A.J. Ellis–LAD
19. Yasmani Grandal–SD
20. Russell Martin–NYY

I must admit, I didn’t think Buster Posey would have quite the year he’s having after missing so much time last season with an awful ankle injury. It should continue and he will finish as this years top catcher. I like Matt Wieters to finish the season strong. He seems to alternate hot streaks every other month. Hopefully he stays hot in September. Carlos Santana should be excellent from here on out. He has a .292/.434/.594 triple slash since the All-Star break to go along with 7 home runs. A.J. Pierzynski is having a great season and I think it continues. He’ll finish just shy of 30 home runs though, as he’ll tally 29 by season’s end.

Brian McCann just hasn’t put together a prolonged hot streak to give his average a boost. The nagging injuries haven’t help either. His 18 homers have been nice though and he should continue to hit for power. In a two catcher league, John Jaso is a nice option. He’ll hit a few home runs, steal a few bags, and won’t kill your average. If you’re looking for catching help, see if Yasmani Grandal is available. He could start a rehab assignment this week and just like Jaso, could be a nice option down the stretch in a two catcher league.

  1. Jason says:

I just traded for AJP – Going for it all now. He should be fine this year but was wondering what you thought about him for next season, is he keepable? Its a 18 team 21 Keeper, I would keep Travis d’Arnaud either way. Looks like d’Arnaud is going to be given a shot straight out of ST next year. But, how do you drop AJP who is coming off a 25+ HR Season!?

  2. David Kerr says:

You don’t drop him. You WIN NOW!
